How to Build a Commercial Cleaning Scope of Works
A cleaning scope of works is the document that turns a general expectation of "clean" into something specific, measurable and accountable. A well-built scope generally covers the following.
Areas and tasks
A clear breakdown of which areas are covered — workstations, amenities, kitchens, common areas — and exactly what tasks apply to each.
Frequency
How often each task is performed, which may vary by area (daily for high-touch amenities, weekly for less-used spaces).
Standards
What "done" looks like for each task, so there's a shared reference point for quality inspection.
Responsibilities
Who is responsible for what — including any tasks that sit outside the cleaning contractor's scope, to avoid ambiguity.
Review points
A scope isn't static. Building in periodic review points means it can be adjusted as occupancy, layout or requirements change, rather than becoming outdated.
